Clippen for Claude

TL;DR

Clippen's connector lets Claude cut your long videos — podcasts, interviews, webinars, streams — into vertical clips with captions, straight from a conversation.

Connect it in Claude's connector settings, or as a custom connector with the URL https://clippen.app/mcp, and sign in with your Clippen account.

You need a Clippen plan or credit pack. Processing a video uses credits, one per minute of source video.

The connector edits footage you provide. It does not generate video, images or audio.

What the connector does

Give Claude a link to a long video and it asks Clippen to transcribe it, find the strongest moments, reframe each one to 9:16 around whoever is speaking and burn in word-by-word captions. You can name the moment you want in your own words, choose how many clips and how long. Claude can also list your recent jobs and their clips. Links from YouTube, Twitch, X, Facebook, Loom and Streamable work.

How to connect

  • Claude on the web, desktop or mobile: open Settings → Connectors, find Clippen and choose Connect — or choose Add custom connector and enter https://clippen.app/mcp. Sign in with your Clippen account (email link or Google) and allow access.
  • Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http clippen https://clippen.app/mcp, then /mcp to sign in.
  • Other agents and scripts: create an API key on your account page and send it as Authorization: Bearer csk_… to the same URL.

What you need

A Clippen account with a plan or a credit pack — there is no free tier. Processing a video spends credits — one per minute of the source video, charged once for the whole run however many clips it returns — and a run that fails or finds nothing releases its credits. Ask Claude how many credits you have left before a long source.

Clippen is a paid tool and bills by the length of what you feed it: one credit is one minute of source video, and that one charge covers the whole run — every clip the video yields, the vertical reframing, the captions and the hook. A 60-minute podcast costs 60 credits whether it comes back with six clips or twelve. Plans start at $19.99 a month for 150 credits ($11.66 a month billed annually) and run to $59.99 a month for 800 credits. There is no free tier.

Tools

Read — by default, Claude runs these without asking:

  • List recent jobs (list_jobs)
  • Get processing job status (get_job_status)
  • List a job's clips (list_clips)
  • Account, plan and credits (get_quota)

Write — by default, Claude asks you before each call:

  • Process a video into short clips (process_video)
  • Re-cut a clip from an edited segment list (recut_clip)

You can change either default per tool in Claude's connector settings.

A run takes minutes rather than seconds. Claude starts it, checks on it every minute or so, and lists the clips with their titles, descriptions for each platform and download links when it is done.

Example prompts

  • “Clip my podcast into five vertical shorts of 30 to 45 seconds: link.”
  • “Find the part of my webinar where I explain pricing and make one clip of it: link.”
  • “How many Clippen credits do I have left, and is that enough for a two-hour stream?”
  • “Show my latest Clippen job and list its clips with download links.”

Limits

  • Up to 15 clips per run, each between 5 seconds and 3 minutes long. The number is a target: a source that does not hold that many good moments returns fewer.
  • Direct links to video files are not supported, because a run is priced by the length of the source before it starts and a bare file has no length to read. Use a link from one of the platforms above.
  • Each clip comes with a download link. It opens in a browser signed in to your Clippen account and hands over a file link valid for 15 minutes; opening it again issues a fresh one.

What the connector does not do

  • No generated media. It edits the footage you provide — cutting, reframing, captions, zooms. It does not generate video, images or audio; dubbing and AI voices are not available through Claude.
  • No purchases. Plans and credit packs are bought on clippen.app, never through Claude.
  • No posting. It does not publish to your social accounts; you download the clips and post them yourself.

What Clippen receives from Claude

Only what each request needs: the video link, the moment you described, the clip settings, or which job or clip to read or edit. We do not receive your conversation with Claude. Signing in for the connection is authorised through WorkOS, which receives your Clippen account identifier and email address for that purpose. Disconnecting Clippen in Claude's connector settings stops all further access. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

  • Connected to the wrong account. Ask Claude for your Clippen credits — the answer names the account. Connecting uses the Clippen account this browser is signed in to, so to switch, first sign out at clippen.app, then disconnect Clippen in Claude and connect again, signing in with the other account.
  • Claude says it needs to reconnect. Disconnect and connect again in Claude's connector settings; your jobs and clips stay in your library.
  • quota_exceeded. The account has no active plan, or fewer credits than the source needs; the message says which. Choose a plan or top up on clippen.app, then ask again.
  • plan_required. The layout you asked for (split screen, screencast, speaker cut) needs Pro or above. Ask again without it, or upgrade.
  • A download link asks you to sign in. It opens through your Clippen account; sign in to clippen.app in the same browser and open it again.
  • Anything else: write to [email protected] with the job id Claude showed you. A person reads it.

Your rights in the video

Clip video you own or have the right to use. Asking Claude to process a link is the same representation as pasting it into the app, and the Terms apply to both.

Common questions

How do I connect Clippen to Claude?
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and connect Clippen, or add a custom connector with the URL https://clippen.app/mcp. Sign in with your Clippen account and allow access. In Claude Code, run "claude mcp add --transport http clippen https://clippen.app/mcp" and then /mcp to sign in.
What does it cost to use Clippen from Claude?
The same as in the app: you need a Clippen plan or credit pack, and a run costs one credit per minute of source video, charged once however many clips it returns. A run that fails releases its credits.
Will Claude spend my credits without asking?
Not by default. Starting a run is marked as a write action, so Claude asks you before each one unless you change that in its connector settings. Reading your jobs, clips and credit balance happens without a prompt.
Does Clippen see my conversation with Claude?
No. Clippen receives only the arguments of each request — the video link, the moment you described, the clip settings — and returns job status, clip details and download links.
Can the connector dub or voice my clips?
No. The Claude connector edits the footage you provide and does not generate video, images or audio.
How do I disconnect?
In Claude's connector settings, disconnect Clippen. That stops all further access; your clips stay in your Clippen library.
